Yamaha announced a new 40-horsepower four-stroke midrange outboard, internally called the F40A, which will run more efficiently and reliably thanks to the addition of electronic multi-point fuel injection and other improvements from Yamaha’s engineers. Lone Star Outdoor News was on the water and tested the new engine May 13. F40LA -Advertising claim said it is incredibly smooth. I got the optional electric troll controll that lets you adjust trolling speed from 650-900 rpm in 50 rpm increments. Upon start up at 750-800 rpm’s it shakes a lot. Using troll control 2 settings are fairly smooth, 650,700. At 1000 it is the smoothest. Installed a prop brake to troll at 900-1000. I spent $800. for the troll contrll option which is useless above 900. Yamaha should retract their advertising claim of INCREDIBLY SMOOTH.

New two strokes are just as quiet as four strokes, and even more fuel efficient.

99 kilos, thats abit more than the 83 on the regular 40 HP… Is this a high thrust engine?
